I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 10, after my gym teacher noticed my uneven shoulders. Like many, I followed the traditional path—wait and see, then a plaster cast, then a brace, and finally, spinal fusion surgery. I did everything I was told… and for years, I lived what looked like a “normal” life.
Until I didn’t.
At 41, I began waking up in the middle of the night, screaming in pain. Not even the strongest medications could touch it. I went from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist—and no one could explain why this was happening, let alone how to fix it.
Eventually, a general practitioner, who had no solution, said: “I’ve heard of something called Scolio-Pilates… maybe try that?”
I did. And it changed everything.
I walked into Karena Thek’s studio completely broken. And I walked out with hope.
Through daily practice, I began to rebuild the alignment and the strength I thought was impossible. I learned tools I still use every day—not just to relieve pain, but to understand and support my spine.
